All members that are listed in our directory agree to our Recommended Quality Standards for Excellence for Network of Professional Pet Carers members.

• The Pet Carer carries current public liability insurance (or the appropriate insurance for their business)

• The Pet Carer has an Australian Business Number.

• The Pet Carer can provide legitimate references.

• The Pet Carer has experience in caring for pets that are not their own and is clearly mindful of their safety and well being.

• Pet Sitting and Dog Walking Pet Carers will visit the client’s home before the first pet-sitting or dog walking assignment to meet the pets and get detailed information about their care.

• The Pet Carer shows a positive attitude during the initial meeting and seems comfortable and competent in dealing with the animals.

• The Pet Carer wants to learn as much as possible about the animals in his or her care.

• The Pet Carer provides a service contract which specifies services, cost and liability.

• The Pet Carer is courteous, interested and well informed.

• The Pet Carer takes precautions to make sure a client’s absence from home is not detected because of any careless actions or disclosures by the carer.

• The Pet Carer conducts business with honesty and integrity and observes all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to business operations and animal care.

• The Pet Carer has a veterinarian on call for emergency service.

• The Pet Carer has a contingency plan for pet care in case of inclement weather or personal illness.

• The Pet Carer screens sub-contractors and/or employees carefully.

• The Pet Carer endeavours to invest in her/his own ongoing training for themselves as well as sub-contractors and/or employees.

• The Pet Carer exhibits courtesy and professionalism in all dealings with sub-contractors and/or employees, customers and industry colleagues so as to present Network of Professional Pet Carers, Professional Pet Carers and the Professional Pet Care industry positively.

• The Pet Carer is knowledgeable, responsive, caring, honest, responsible and strives for professional excellence within the pet care industry.
